About Our Flooring Store in Modesto, CA

We help Central Valley families create homes they love, from the floor to the windows, because one trusted team that stands behind its work is a neighbor you can count on.

Since 1979, Rays Carpet One Floor & Home has helped families across Stanislaus County design homes they love. We’re locally owned, family run, and now in our third generation, and we still do business the way our founder did.

Our Story

Ray Johnson was an installer before he ever owned a store. He knew a beautiful room comes down to two things: the right design decisions up front and real care on install day. He opened his first shop on McHenry Avenue in 1979 with one promise: treat every customer like family.

Three generations later, that promise has grown into something more. Our showroom is home to a design team that helps Modesto families create homes that feel designed, not just re-floored.

Every project starts with what the room should become. Our design team learns how you live: kids, pets, traffic, budget, and the look you’re after. Then we bring flooring, tile, area rugs, and window treatments together into one plan, and you see the samples in your own light. From precise measuring and moisture testing to installers who have been with us for decades, we handle every detail. All you have to do is enjoy the room you envisioned.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help every family we serve create a home they love, with honest, design-led guidance, quality products and expert installation, and to treat every customer the way Ray Johnson did from day one: like family.

What We Value

• We design first. Every project starts with what the room should become, not what’s on the clearance rack.
• We treat every customer like family. No pressure and no runaround, just the straight answers we’d give our own family.
• We give honest guidance. We recommend what fits your home, your household and your budget, and we explain why.
• We sweat the details. Careful measuring, moisture testing before we install, and installation by the same trusted installers who have worked with us for decades.
• We’re here after the sale. We’re your neighbors. If something isn’t right, you know where to find us.
• We’re rooted in Modesto. The community that has supported us since 1979 is the one we invest in.

How We Help

Visit our showroom to see and feel carpet, hardwood, luxury vinyl, laminate and tile in person, plus window treatments from Hunter Douglas, Alta and Graber. Every member of our design team holds a design certification, so whoever you work with brings trained design judgment to your project. The team includes Modesto natives, a designer with an interior design background, and a dedicated Hunter Douglas window-coverings specialist. Together, they bring flooring, tile, rugs and window treatments into one cohesive plan for your home. We handle the details: free in-home estimates, moisture testing, installation by trusted installers who work specifically for us, many for decades, in-house area rug binding, and water-damage and insurance replacement jobs. We serve homeowners, builders and commercial customers.

Giving Back

We sponsor community events like the Modesto Memorial Classic and the St. Stanislaus Festival, and we support the Christian Berets and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which helps first responders, veterans and their families. In 2024, Carpet One Floor & Home honored our team with the Wally Hileman Award for that commitment to our community. We also host home-design workshops for our neighbors.
